ABOUT THE ARTIST

Photographer Vasilios Agapios' Headshot

Vasilios was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where he developed an early appreciation for both discipline and creativity. After graduating from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2005, he was immediately placed on active duty with the U.S. Army, beginning a 20-year career as a communications and cybersecurity officer.

His military service took him around the world — from South Korea to Colorado to Georgia and beyond — including two combat tours in Iraq. Throughout those two decades, photography remained a constant creative outlet, a way to capture moments of beauty and humanity even in challenging circumstances.

When his wife, a fellow Army officer, suggested ballroom dance lessons as a date night activity, neither of them knew the impact that would have on their lives. They made it a regular outing, ultimately deciding to go from social dancing to competitive dancing; an activity that they both still enjoy very much. But as their passion for dance grew, so did Vasilios's frustration with competition photography. That recurring disappointment planted a seed: there had to be a better way.

When Vasilios retired from active duty in 2025, he didn't just pursue photography as a hobby — he turned it into a mission. He sought training from world-class photographers, studying the technical craft of headshots and portraiture with the same dedication he'd brought to his military career. His goal was clear: create the polished, intentional images that people — especially dancers — actually deserve.

Today, Vasilios works across multiple portrait genres: dance photography for competitive ballroom dancers, professional headshots for career-focused clients, and lifestyle portraiture for engagements, families, and creative concepts. His approach remains consistent across all his work: capture people at their most confident, create an environment where they can relax and be authentic, and deliver images that make them see themselves differently.

When he's not behind the camera, you'll find Vasilios on the dance floor, still competing and still understanding exactly what his dancer clients are looking for in their photos.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I believe that there is beauty in everyone. It shows up in different ways for different people, but it's always there — in the confidence of a dancer, in the quiet professionalism of someone building their career, in the joy of celebrating a meaningful moment.

My job isn't to create that beauty. It's already present. My job is to guide you through an experience where you feel comfortable enough to be your authentic self, and then capture what emerges. The most important question I ask every client is simple: "How do you want to be seen?" Because everyone deserves to see themselves the way I see them — at their most confident, their most authentic, their most themselves.

That's what drives every session: showing you what I see. Because you deserve to recognize your own beauty too.
